10 Militants Killed in Gunfight with Assam Rifles in Manipur’s Chandel District

At least 10 militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with an Assam Rifles unit in Manipur’s Chandel district on Wednesday, according to the Indian Army’s Eastern Command. The ongoing operation was launched based on specific intelligence about the movement of armed cadres near New Samtal village in Khengjoy Tehsil, close to the Indo-Myanmar border.
The Eastern Command confirmed the operation in a post on X, stating, “Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of armed cadres near New Samtal village, Khengjoy Tehsil, Chandel District, an Assam Rifles unit under Spear Corps launched an operation on May 14, 2025.”
During the operation, militants opened fire on the troops, who swiftly responded by redeploying and retaliating in a calibrated and measured manner. In the ensuing firefight, at least 10 militants were neutralized, and a substantial quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered, the statement added.
