Who is Szymon Marciniak who will referee FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France. All you need to know

Just a day to go to the Argentina-France FIFA World Cup final. While Lionel Messi is hoping to grab his first ever World Cup trophy before he retire from international football, both Argentina and France would want to take the Cup home for a fourth time. France of course are the hot favourites having won the last FIFA World Cup in 2018. Cannot not mention 23 year old Kylian Mbappe (France) who would be eyeing to become the youngest player to win the tournament back-to-back since Pele (at the age of 21 for Brazil).

Poland’s Szymon Marciniak has been named as referee for the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France. The 41-year-old Marciniak, who officiated his first World Cup match in 2018, will become the first Pole to oversee the final. He will be joined by assistants Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz. The fourth official will be USA’s Ismail Elfath and Poland’s Tomasz Kwiatkowski will be on VAR duties.
Kylian Mbappe would be eyeing to become the youngest player to win the tournament back-to-back since Pele (at the age of 21 for Brazil).
WHO IS MARCINIAK?
The Pole became a FIFA-listed official in 2013 after starting his career in Poland’s top flight in 2009. Marciniak recently officiated the group stage match between France and Denmark and the Round of 16 match between Argentina and Australia at the World Cup 2022.
In this season’s Champions League, Marciniak officiated the 3-3 thriller between Barcelona and Inter at Camp Nou and Porto’s 1-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid, in which he sent off Mehdi Taremi for diving. The Polish referee also oversaw the Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in 2018 and had sent off Germany’s Jerome Boateng during the 2018 World Cup.
