Tennis legend Boris Becker lands in jail for bankruptcy

The 54-year-old six-time Grand Slam champion was found guilty of four charges under the Insolvency Act.

Former Wimbledon champion Boris Becker has been jailed in Britain for two and a half years for hiding £2.5m worth of assets and loans to avoid paying debts.

The 54-year-old six-time Grand Slam champion was found guilty of four charges under the Insolvency Act.

Becker was convicted earlier this month of four charges under Britain’s Insolvency Act, including failing to disclose, concealing, and removing significant assets following a bankruptcy trial.

The case centered on Becker’s bankruptcy in June 2017 resulting from an unpaid loan of more than £3m on his luxury estate in Spain.

The 54-year-old German tennis great was found guilty of transferring £356,000 to nine recipients, which included the bank accounts of his ex-wife Barbara and his estranged wife Sharley “Lilly” Becker.

He was also convicted of failing to declare a property in Germany as well as hiding an 825,000 bank loan and shares in a tech firm.

Meanwhile, Judge Deborah Taylor said he had shown no remorse or acceptance of guilt. She also said that Becker would serve half his sentence behind bars and the remainder on license.
