Rohit Sharma will replace Virat Kohli as captain of India’s One Day International (ODI) and T20I teams. This was announced by the BCCI yesterday.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward,” BCCI tweeted.
Rohit Sharma also replaces Ajinkya Rahane as India’s Test vice-captain.
Further, the All India senior selection committee on Wednesday picked an 18-member squad for the Test series against South Africa.
India’s Test squad:
Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Wriddhiman Saha (wk), R Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Md. Siraj.
Standby Players: Navdeep Saini, Saurabh Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Arzan Nagwaswalla.
India will play 3 Tests and 3 ODIs against South Africa starting December 26 in South Africa.
First Test will be played between December 26-30, 2021 in Centurion and the Second Test between January 3-7, 2022, in Johannesburg and the third Test will be played from January 11, 2022, in Cape Town.
India’s ODI squad for South Africa’s tour is yet to be announced.
