Lovlina Borgohain to Chair AIBA’s Athlete’s Committee’s Board of Directors

The Assam pugilist received the highest number of votes in the election held on the sidelines of the 2022 Women’s World held in Istanbul.

In pleasant news for sports enthusiasts of the Northeast, pugilist Lovlina Borgohain has been elected as the chairperson and voting member on the International Boxing Association’s (IBA/AIBA) Board of Directors for the Athletes’ Committee.

Notably, the Assam pugilist received the highest number of votes in the election held on the sidelines of the 2022 Women’s World held in Istanbul.

Sharing the news on Twitter Borgohain expressed happiness about her selection in the athletes’ body. “Extremely delighted that I have been elected as the chairperson for Athlete Committee of International Boxing Association. Thank you everyone who has voted for me. Special thanks to BFI, Govt. of India, SAI, Govt. of Assam, Tops, and my countrymen for your constant support,” tweeted Lovlina.

Earlier, Indian Boxer Shiva Thapa was also elected as a member of IBA Athlete’s committee in the elections held during the IBA Men’s World Championship 2021. 

The Athletes committee makes sure that the views and opinions of Boxers are heard and considered within AIBA. It also acts as an interface for AIBA to communicate with the boxers.
