In a shocking incident, the body of an Indian footballer has been recovered from a hostel in Kolkata on April 4.

Jyoti Kumari, who played as a defender for India hailed from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and was living in Odisha for several years.

Reportedly, the family of the deceased has demanded CBI investigation regarding her death and also claimed that Kumar did not die by suicide as believed.

Earlier, Kumari had played for India in the U-15 SAFF Championships and U-16 AFC qualifiers. Jyoti started playing football from the age of 11 years and was selected for SAI from Madhya Pradesh during trials.

Later, she played for the Sports Authority of India Cuttak. Jyoti missed out on a spot in the squad for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup but she focused on Indian Women’s League.
