India’s medal tally is steadily on the rise. Neeraj Chopra creates history in the 2018 Asian Games, he becomes the first Indian to clinch a gold medal in Javelin Throw.
Chopra clinched the gold medal with a massive throw of 88.03m in the Javelin final. This is India’s second gold medal at the 2018 Asiad.
Day 9 saw Dharun Ayyasamy breaking the national record to clinch silver in the men’s 400m hurdles race.
He clocked 48.96 seconds in the final event. Dharun is also the first Indian to run a 400m Hurdles under 49 seconds.
The incredible performances in Athletics continue with Sudha Singh bagging a silver in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase. This is Sudha’s second Asian Games medal having won a gold in the 2010 Games.
On the other hand, Neena Varakil clinches silver in long jump in the track and field event with a jump of 6.51m.
Earlier, PV Sindhu became the first-ever Indian shuttler to reach the final of Asian Games in either singles or doubles.
While, Saina Nehwal had to be content with a bronze medal after suffering a straight games defeat to Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying.
Meanwhile, Hima Das is all set for her next individual event. The sprinter who won silver in the women’s 400 m at the Asiad will eye the yellow metal when she takes centre stage in the women’s 200m qualifications.
She made her second national record in two days as she clocked 50.59 seconds to win the silver, behind Bahrain’s Salwa Naser who won the gold.
