With the conclusion of the first phase of polls in Manipur, political parties are gearing up to campaign for the Second Phase of Manipur Assembly Elections which is scheduled to take place on March 5.

On that note, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting Manipur once again today to give an impetus to BJP’s poll campaign,

The Union Home Minister will be taking part in a public meeting at Heirok constituency in Thoubal district as part of the campaigning ahead of the second phase of elections.

This will be Shah’s second visit to Manipur in the election season.

The first phase of the Manipur Assembly Election was held yesterday.

Voting took place under tight security cover in 1721 polling stations spread across five electoral districts. For the first phase, 38 seats were in fray.

An overall voters’ turnout of 85.14% was registered in the first phase of polls in Manipur.

Notably, Imphal West reported the highest voter turnout of 89.15%, followed by Bishnupur with 88.70%, Imphal East 84.28%%, Kangpokpi 83.38% and Churachandpur 77.38%.

While elections were by and large peaceful in the Imphal valley, few incidents of EVM damage and alleged booth capturing attempts leading to preventive blank firing by security personnel were reported from 51-Saitu, 57-HengIep and 60-Singhat Assembly Constituencies.
