East Shillong is one of the 60 Legislative Assembly constituencies of Meghalaya. It is part of East Khasi Hills district and is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes.It falls under Shillong Lok Sabha constituency. The estimated population of Shillong city in 2023 is 196,000.
Former Meghalaya education minister and four-time Congress MLA who has now joined National People’s Party (NPP) Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh is the sitting MLA of the constituency. East Shillong constituency was occupied by Ampareen Lyngdoh since 2013. She won the seat in the 2018 Assembly elections with 10,368 votes by defeating BJP candidate Neil Antonio War with a margin of 6074 votes.
Ampareen Lyngdoh’s main opponents in this election are BJP’s Wankitbok Pohshna and Congress candidate Manuel Badwar.
