Vincent Pala, the Meghalaya Congress chief and Lok Sabha MP from Shillong is contesting the Assembly elections for the first time from the Sutnga Saipung constituency. He will be competing against the incumbent Sutnga Saipung MLA Shitlang Pale of UDP, NPP candidate Santa Mary Shylla and BJP’s Krison Langstang.
A coal baron and one among the richest candidates, 55-year-old Pala has held the Shillong Lok Sabha seat since 2009. In his very first term, he was the first parliamentarian from Meghalaya to become a Union minister of state, and hold the portfolio of Water Resources Ministry, and later Minority Affairs.
