Cabinet Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, a UDP leader from Meghalaya, has a stronghold in the Amlarem constituency. He was previously a member of the Congress party and was elected as an MLA in the 2008 Meghalaya Assembly election from the War-Jaintia constituency. In 2018, he won the Amlarem constituency as a UDP candidate with 14,766 votes, representing 50.10 percent of the total votes. In the upcoming 2023 Assembly elections, he faces competition from NPP’s Stephanson Mukhim, Arbiangkam Kharsohmat of the Congress party, Firstborn Manner from the BJP, and the AITC’s Alban K Gashnga as he attempts to retain his seat.
