Today, across India, schools are abuzz with excitement and joy as the nation celebrates Children’s Day.

Today, India is filled with excitement and energy as Children’s Day is being celebrated across the country. Schools and educational institutions across India are abuzz with excitement and joy.

Schools and educational institutions organized special events and activities to celebrate childhood and to promote education in fun and engaging ways.

In many schools, teachers step into the role of students, taking part in the day’s activities, leading games, or delivering fun lessons. Parents, too, get involved, either by helping organize the events or by attending celebrations.

Children’s Day in India is annually observed on 14th November. For millions of children, it’s a special occasion. The day marks the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister.

But why do we celebrate Children’s Day on Nehru’s birthday?

Children’s Day is celebrated on November 14 to commemorate the dedication of the nation’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, to the welfare of children.

Nehru was fond of children. Lovingly called “Chacha Nehru” meaning Uncle Nehru, believed the children of the nation must be brought up with love, they should have access to quality education, and given scope to grow.

Nehru’s commitment to the welfare of children and his belief in their pivotal role in the nation’s future is what led to the establishment of Children’s Day on November 14.

After Nehru’s death in 1964, the Government of India decided to honour his love for children by dedicating his birthday, November 14, as Children’s Day. The day serves as a reminder of Nehru’s vision for India’s future, emphasizing the importance of education, equality, and the protection of children’s rights.
