Search and rescue operations continued overnight after the shocking bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Morbi Sunday evening, as the death toll in the tragic incident has been reported to have crossed the 140 mark.
Rescue teams – including armed forces personnel and those from the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) – were rushed to the site soon after the incident and operations continued overnight. Over 150 people have been rescued so far according to ANI.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences over the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of each deceased person.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reached the accident site on Sunday night, took stock of the situation and held a review meeting with the concerned officials.
As per reports, 140 people have lost their lives in so far. “Everyone worked all through the night. Navy, NDRF, Air Force and Army reached quickly. More than 200 persons have worked the entire night (for search and rescue operations),” the Gujarat Home Minister said.
