Mundka Fire: 27 people killed in West Delhi

The building which caught fire had office spaces and is close to the Mundka metro station.

In one of the worst fire accidents reported in the country, at least 27 people lost their lives when a blazing inferno engulfed a three-story building in West Delhi’s Mundka.

The building which caught fire had office spaces and is close to the Mundka metro station. While at least 27 people have lost their lives several others have been critically injured.

More than 50 people were evacuated to safety in a massive fire-fighting and rescue operation that kicked off soon after the blaze was reported on Friday evening.

While the blaze broke out around 4.40 pm, the magnitude of the toll became clear only by night, as rescuers managed to douse the flames to an extent and enter the premises — only to find charred bodies inside.

It is informed that the blaze reportedly broke out on the first floor of the building that housed the office of a firm that manufactures CCTV cameras and Wi-Fi routers.

Meanwhile, the building did not have a fire no-objection certificate or NOC, which is mandatory as per government rules. Two owners of the firm – Harish Goel and Varun Goel – were arrested late at night.

The owner of the building identified as Manish Lakra is currently missing and police teams are on mission mode to arrest him soon.

North West Delhi’s BJP MP Hans Raj Hans who visited the site earlier in the day demanded an immediate inquiry into the incident. The BJP MP further said that no amount of compensation can fill the void caused in the life of the victims due to the tragedy. Hans Raj Hans further demanded that the culprits involved in ignorance of the safety norms in the building should be nabbed soon.
