Bodies of all the victims who lost their lives in the tragic Morbi bridge collapse in Gujarat have been retrieved and no one is missing.

It may be mentioned here that at least 135 people were killed and over 100 injured after a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town fell on Sunday, plunging people into the Machchhu river.

The Morbi district administration had been informed earlier on Wednesday that one person was missing as an aftermath of the tragedy, but the police have since verified that this information was incorrect.

Four of the nine accused in the tragedy have been arrested so far and remanded to police custody. Five are still at large.

Under IPC sections 304 and 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Gujarat Police had filed an FIR against the nine of the Oreva gang who were ostensibly in charge of the tragic bridge collapse.

Speaking about the ongoing investigation, Rahul Tripathi, SP, Morbi, said that all 4 of the accused are being questioned in order to determine who is responsible for the various failures in the bridge renovation.

“We’re doing a thorough investigation, and whoever is involved will be arrested and booked,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear on November 14 a PIL seeking direction to appoint a judicial commission under the supervision of the retired top court judge to initiate a probe on incident.

The plea filed by the lawyer sought directions to the State governments to form a committee to survey and conduct an assessment risk of old and risky monuments and bridges to ensure environmental viability and safety.
