A 19-year-old youth, accused of kidnapping a minor reportedly died in police custody at the Jaisinagar Police Station in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, officials said on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Kritesh Patel, a resident of Semra Gopalman village in the district.

According to reports, Kritesh was arrested and taken into custody by the police on Monday after being charged with kidnapping a minor.

Meanwhile, the youth’s family alleged that he died as a result of being beaten up by the police and the girl’s family.

As per reports, his father stated that Kritesh’s health condition was absolutely fine and was not suffering from any kind of illnesses.

Kritesh eloped with a girl and his father himself reached Bhopal along with the police and handed him over to them. The girl’s family and the police drove them away and they beat up Kritesh, who later died, Kritesh’s father.

However, additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vikram Singh told ANI that the youth died in police custody at Jaisinagar police station.

“SP has written a letter to the District Judge for judicial inquiry. The actual reason for Kritesh’s death will get clear after the judicial inquiry. Further action will be taken accordingly,” said ASP Vikram Singh .

The investigation into this matter is underway. Further information is awaited.
