Former Congress leader and veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad has taken a dig at Rahul Gandhi for mismanagement that eventually led to the exit of now Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma from the party.
Speaking excluively to Mojo founder Barkha Dutt, Azad narrated the sequence of events and the alleged complete mismanagement by Rahul Gandhi that led to the fiasco.
Significantly Azad claimed that Rahul Gandhi decided to side with former Assam Chief Minister Late Tarun Gogoi, despite the latter having support of only 7 MLAs against Himanta Biswa Sarma’s 45.
Azad claimed that Rahul Gandhi paid no heed to his warning on the Himanta Biswa Sarma issue. Azad also targeted Sonia Gandhi for allegedly not asserting herself as the then party president thus leading to disastrous consequences.
In fact Azad claimed that ‘let him go’ was Rahul Gandhi’s blunt reply despite the warning that Sarma had the support of majority MLAs and would rebel and quit the party.
Sarma, of course, has since emerged as the most powerful leader in the Northeast and the BJP’s master strategist in the region while the Congress has been nearly wiped out in Northeast.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also reacted on the disclosure made by Ghulam Nabi Azad. Taking to Twitter he said, he chose to remain in the Grand Old Party despite the efforts made by Ghulam Nabi Azad to resolve things at that point of time.
It may be mentioned that Ghulam Nabi Azad also made a mention of the episode in his autobiography Azaad.
