A message suggesting vehicle owners to not fill their fuel tanks to the maximum capacity has gone viral. The viral claim warns vehicle owners not to fill the fuel tanks of their cars to the maximum limit since the temperature might increase in the coming days and a full tank poses a risk of explosion. The post has been shared by many social media users. However, the claim made in the viral post is fake and misleading.
However, the PIB’s fact-check unit found this claim to be FAKE. The Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) on Thursday, April 19, issued a statement refuting the claims. “Important announcement from #IndianOil. It is perfectly safe to fill fuel in vehicles up to the limit(max) as specified by the manufacturer irrespective of winter or summer,” IOCL’s tweet read. The company made the same announcement in a Facebook post on the same day.
