As India celebrated the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon’s south pole, becoming the first country to achieve this feat, Darjeeling also celebrated the success of young scientist Nirupam Sharma, from Mirik, who was a part of the ISRO team and contributed to the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3.

Nirupam Sharma, a scientist, hailing from the Okayti Tea Garden in Darjeeling played a key role in the Chandrayaan-3’s success. Sharma joined ISRO in 2017.

Apart from Nirupam Sharma, many young scientists from the eastern region of India were also a part of the successful moon mission.

Two scientists from Assam, Nidhi Sarma and Chayan Dutta, were part of the triumphant Team ISRO, which handled the successful launch and landing of Chandrayaan 3.

Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam from Manipur was also a part of Chandrayaan 3.

Besides Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam, Noel Chawang and Y. Bishal Singh from Manipur are two other scientists who are part of this historic success.

James Leichombam and his wife Praneswori from Manipur are also a part of the team.

India’s third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, successfully landed on the south polar region of the Moon, scripting history today at 6:04 PM. India became just the fourth country to land on the Moon after the United States, Russia, and China to achieve the feat.
