The government of India has issued new guidelines for the states and union territories (UTs) in the wake of an increase in covid-19 cases and its Omicron variant.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan suggested that field/makeshift hospitals be established to expand the availability of health infrastructure.
The states have been asked to ensure that control rooms at the district or sub-district/ward level are operational.
It further stated that a clearly defined mechanism for accessing testing, ambulances, and hospital beds must be put in place and communicated to the general public.

States are also requested to revisit the existing covid-19 health infrastructure and to take any necessary steps to ensure its operational readiness. The Centre has also asked the states to relook into containment measures on the ground to curb the spread of the virus.
On Sunday, India reported a single-day increase of 27,553 Covid-19 cases and 284 deaths.
The active caseload stands at 1,22,801 with 9,249 recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours.
Recovery Rate currently at 98.27%. Meanwhile, the Omicron tally in the country reached 1,525. In India,145.44 crores vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
