Container truck carrying RBI’s Rs 535 crore in cash breaks down in Chennai

Two containers, each carrying Rs 1,070 crore in cash from the Reserve Bank in Chennai to Villupuram, were sent back after one of the trucks broke down in Tambaram
Two container trucks, collectively carrying Rs 1,070 crore in cash from the Reserve Bank in Chennai to Villupuram, were forced to halt in Tambaram in Chennai, as one of the lorries faced a technical snag, India Today reported.
Seventeen police officers were escorting the trucks on the national highway.
The Chrompet police arrived at the spot upon learning that a truck carrying Rs 535 crore in cash had broken down. However, the police were called for more protection. Both the lorries departed from the RBI office in Chennai to Villupuram to deliver the currency to banks in the district.
After one of the trucks broke down, it was moved to the National Institute of Siddha in Tambaram in Chennai due to security reasons.
Assistant Commissioner of Tambaram, Srinivasan, reached the spot with a team and discovered the truck which was broken down. The truck was shifted to the Siddha institute, and the gates were closed. Entry to the institute was briefly prohibited.
As the mechanics couldn’t repair the truck, they were sent back to the Reserve Bank in Chennai.
