At least six workers were killed and 12 others were injured after a fire broke out at Porus Laboratories in Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday night.

Reportedly, hospital authorities have informed that four out of the 12 injured are in serious condition.

Meanwhile, expressing shock over the incident, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has announced Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased.

According to an official release, he also announced Rs five lakh each to the critically injured and Rs 2 lakh to those who sustained minor injuries

The incident occurred at around 11:30 pm when a gas leak caused an explosion which resulted in a fire in fourth unit of the plant.

Police, revenue and fire department officials rushed to the spot and controlled the fire. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The CM has also directed the district collector and the superintendent of police to conduct a full investigation into the incident.
