In a tragic incident, five people died in a pandal fire that broke out in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi on Sunday, officials said on Monday.
As per reports, three boys (all under the age of 12) and two women are among the five people who died.
The deceased have been identified as Ankush Soni (12), Naveen Kumar (10), Harshvardhan (8), Jaya Devi (47), and Aarati Devi (48).
The incident occurred at a Durga Puja pandal in Aurai, Bhadohi district.
According to District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi, the fire spread around 9 p.m. during the Aarti session to mark the seventh day of Navratri festivities, or Saptami, when a halogen light at the pandal overheated, causing an electric wire to catch fire.
According to the district magistrate, the cause of the fire was determined by a special probe team formed by Additional Director General Ram Kumar.
As per reports, around 150 people were said to be present at that time.
Following the incident, nearly 55 people were initially admitted to hospitals, with 22 of them said to be critical at the time and suffering from severe burn injuries.
An FIR has been lodged at Aurai police station. Meanwhile, CM Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences for the deaths in the incident.
Adityanath has directed officials to ensure that the injured receive appropriate care.
