The Budget session of the Parliament began today. The session starts with President Ram Nath Kovind’s addressing the Parliament.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey for 2021-2022 in the Parliament today,

The first part of the Budget session will be held from January 31 to February 11. It will then go into a recess to review the budgetary allocations for various departments.

The session will resume on March 14 and conclude on April 8.

The first part of the session will have 10 sittings, while the second part will have 19 sittings.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu will chair separate meetings with floor leaders of political parties today to ensure smooth functioning of the Houses during the session.

Meanwhile, during the Budget session, the Opposition is likely to raise the Pegasus spyware issue, border row with China as well as the farmers’ issue besides others.

The New York Times reported earlier this week that India bought Pegasus spyware in 2017 as part of a defence deal with Israel.

Opposition parties intend to bring this up in parliament.

Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has already writted to Speaker Om Birla to move a privilege motion against the government and IT minister Ashwinin Vaishnaw for quote unquote ‘misleading’ the House last year.

The government had denied all charges of quote unquote ‘spying’ in a statement in Parliament in 2021.
