Transfer displaced Kuki students from Manipur University to NEHU and Assam University: KSO

Delay in administrative proceedings has severely impacted 284 students eagerly awaiting the opportunity to pursue higher studies, said KSOGHQ.

The Kuki Students’ Organisation General Headquarters (KSOGHQ), has requested transfer of displaced Kuki students from Manipur University to North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong in Meghalaya and the Assam University in Assam’s Silchar as mandated by the order of the Supreme Court of India.

In a formal representation to Nirupam Chakma, a member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), the KSOGHQ, the apex body representing the Kuki student community emphasised the dire need for his intervention and necessary action in this matter.

It highlighted the plight of hundreds of students who have been unable to pursue their education due to administrative delays.

“Despite the Supreme Court’s order nearly 8 months ago, there has been no compliance with the transfer requests, despite repeated follow-ups and applications submitted by concerned students. Several scholars are unable to continue their Ph.D. studies online due to issues such as the retirement of their supervisors and complications with migration certificates obtained from Manipur University. For the past 8 months, the concerned university has neglected to admit displaced students, despite the Supreme Court’s directive. This delay in administrative proceedings has severely impacted 284 students eagerly awaiting the opportunity to pursue higher studies,” said the student body in its letter to Chakma.

The KSO further stated that they have submitted numerous representations to the University Grants Commission Chairman, seeking swift action, however, no response has come in from the relevant authorities till date.
