Manipur CM N Biren Singh holds crucial meet with MLAs

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh held a crucial meeting with the ruling MLAs in his office last night and had threadbare discussion on the prevailing situation in the state.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday stated that the discussion focused on range of pressing issues faced by the state. Ways to formulate effective strategies to address the challenges was also discussed in the meeting.

“Chaired a meeting with the ruling MLAs at my Secretariat. Deliberated on range of pressing issues facing our state, and our efforts to formulating effective strategies to address the challenges”, CM Singh posted on X

The MLAs resolved to address the core issues and take adequate steps for resolving them so that lasting peace can be achieved, sources said.

On July 17, the representatives of the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and the United Naga Council (UNC) met with the Chief Minister at his secretariat and discussed various pressing issues.

Taking to X, Singh wrote, “Various pressing issues, including the recent tragic incident involving the killing of Merangir Mechek, a resident of Kangchup village was discussed. This unfortunate incident has been resolved with the support and cooperation of COCOMI and UNC. A suspected individual involved in the murder has been apprehended and we are working to ensure that all others involved in this heinous act will be brought to justice and punished accordingly.”

Last week, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren had told the Assembly that 226 people have been reported dead and 39 are missing, while 59,414 are in relief camps (till Tuesday) due to the ongoing violence in the state since May 2023.

As many as 11,133 houses have been set on fire and 11,892 cases have been registered in different police stations in connection with the violence.

Last month too, the Manipur Chief Minister chaired a meeting of the MLAs of the ruling front at the cabinet hall of the secretariat and vowed to further expedite efforts for bringing permanent peace in the state.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh informed that all the MLAs took a united stand and took a firm resolution to restore peace in the state during the meeting last month.
