Asian Games: Lovlina Borgohain, Harmanpreet Singh to lead Indian contingent in opening ceremony

This time India is sending its biggest contingent so far, it comprises of 655 athletes
Ace pugilist Lovlina Borgohain and Indian Hockey team Captain Harmanpreet Singh will be India’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Asian Games 2023. The sporting extravaganza begins at Hangzhou in China on September 23.
Both Lovlina and Harmanpreet will be leading the Indian contigent comprising of 655 athletes, which is the largest contingent from the nation to take part in the Games.
The Indian athletes will be sweating it out in 41 out of the 61 available disciplines at the Asiad. The Games will be spread across 56 venues, with a total of 481 gold medals up for grabs.
While the official opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Games is scheduled for September 23, several sports like cricket, football, volleyball, and beach volleyball (qualification for knockouts) have already begun their competitions.
Lovlina had won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the 69kg category. This year, she won gold in 75kg category at the World Women’s Boxing Championship in New Delhi. Harmanpreet, one of the best drag-flickers in the world, was part of the Indian Hockey team that won the historic bronze at the Tokyo Olympics.
