Weather Alert: IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Assam in next 5 days

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Assam, especially in Dima Hasao district. As per the IMD forecast the entire state will be experiencing a wet spell with widespread rainfall and thunderstorm in almost all the districts from today (June 11) till June 15.

Very heavy rainfall is likely in different parts in Dima Hasao in the next 10 days, that might cause natural disaster, the Met Department has warned.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked the Chief Secretary to oversee the readiness of NDRF, SFRF and other agencies in case of any eventuality. He has asked NDRF teams to be dispatched to Dima Hasao tonight and be on standby for other districts. The CM has also asked the Deputy Commisioners (DCs) to be ready and alert in the wake of the Met Department’s alert.

The CM said, “As of now next 5 days is little bit critical. I hope all DCs have listened carefully to the prediction of the IMD. Earlier, monsoon used to arrive on June 5, which is delayed by 5-6 days. But now, in next 5 days heavy rainfall is expected in certain areas including Dima Hasao.
So my request will be again to CS (Chief Secretary) to see that a team of NDRF is rushed to Dima Hasao by tonight itself.”

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Dima Hasao has advised people in the district to avoid landslide prone areas, travelling during heavy rain and take all other measures for safety of self and family.
The DDMA has also opened helpline numbers in Dima Hasao. For any query or information the following numbers will be in service:
03673-236324
03673-1877
94355 30412.
