Water pipeline bursts in Guwahati; 2nd incident within a month

Panic and anger gripped the people of Rajgarh area of Guwahati where another JICA-Gammon water pipeline burst this afternoon.

This led to severe artificial floods in the area, several residences and business establishments got submerged by the gushing water.

This incident comes within 18 days of the horrific JICA-Gammon water pipeline burst in Kharghuli area on May 25 that claimed the life of a local resident, left many injured, damaged at least 30 houses and several vehicles.

Angry locals came out in the streets slamming the government as well as the JICA and Gammon India limited for the faulty work.

As per sources, GMDA minister Ashok Singhal has convened a high level meeting with the authorities to discuss the matter.

Kamrup (Metropolitan) DC Pallav Gopal Jha said,”It is very unfortunate that this has happened. Kharghuli was burst, this is a major leak because it happened in the transmission line. The pipes have some legacy issues, we are looking into it. We have to balance and also look at the fact that water supply which is being done to lot of people, that should not be compromised. So we are looking at both the sides and trying to balance it.”
