Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan, began his two-day official visit to Tripura today, focusing on development initiatives in Agartala and the South Tripura district.

He subsequently chaired a comprehensive review meeting with district-level officers to evaluate the implementation of key central government schemes.

Schemes under review included the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), and the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN). The Minister reiterated the Prime Minister’s vision of inclusive growth, highlighting that border villages should be prioritised in development agendas, with guaranteed access to water, electricity, roads, and healthcare.

His visit commenced with prayers at the revered Tripureshwari Temple in Udaipur, reflecting a blend of cultural reverence and administrative commitment.

Upon reaching Belonia, the district headquarters of South Tripura, Dr. Murugan was warmly received by District Collector and Magistrate Mohammed Sajjad P. and Superintendent of Police Maurya Krishna Chandra.

Expressing satisfaction with South Tripura’s developmental progress, which he noted exceeds the state average, Dr. Murugan lauded the district officials. He particularly praised the success of over 28,000 ‘Lakhpati Didis’—women entrepreneurs empowered through self-help groups—as a powerful testament to grassroots, women-led development.

As part of his Information & Broadcasting responsibilities, the Minister visited the Akashwani Belonia station, engaging with listeners live on air. He also inspected the Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital, visited the pediatric ward, and interacted with staff and young patients.

Further, Dr. Murugan assessed infrastructure at the Muhurighat Land Customs Station and a border check post in Belonia, reviewing facilities crucial to trade and border management.

His engagements will continue tomorrow with participation in the Tiranga Yatra in Belonia. He will also visit the Sudhir Sarkar Para Anganwadi Centre, interact with the Manubazar Cluster Level Federation, and engage with the Sabuj Sathi Goatery Producer Group in Sukanta Palli.
