In a big breakthrough, the Manipur Police has arrested 2 women Over Ground Workers (OWGs) of the proscribed Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) for their involvement in the blast in Ukhrul district on April 3 that had left 5 people injured.

What is even more significant is the fact that the apprehended women happen to be mother and daughter.

The duo who have been apprehended in connection with the blast have been identified as about 42-year old Jorah Jajo and 22-year old Leisa Jajo, residents of Nongdam (T) village, Nongdam Lamlong in Ukhrul district.

During interrogation, both of them revealed that they worked as OGWs for the MNPF, under the command of one Ruichumhao Jajo, who is the self-styled Finance Secretary of MNPF, and is also the husband of Jorah Jajo and father of Leisa Jajo.

During further interrogation, Jorah Jajo further stated that her husband Ruchimao Jajo, had used her bank account as well as another online money payment account of his daughter Leisa, for extorting money from common people, government offices as well as businessman in Ukhrul district.

Both, Jorah and Leisa, were arrested from their rented accommodation at Yaingangpokpi Awang Leikat, Imphal East District. Upon frisking the house, food stock as well as other essentials which were supposed to be delivered to an MNPF camp as ration was also recovered and seized. The apprehended OGWs were handed over to the Yaingangpokpi Police station.

The operation was carried out jointly by police teams of Imphal East, Imphal West and Ukhrul districts.

It may be mentioned that at least five persons, all non-locals, were critically injured during the bomb blast near Viewland Church Gate in Ukhrul town on April 3 at around 6:30 PM. 5 daily wagers who were passing through the spot at the time of the explosion were injured.
