Addressing a press conference at the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Dinkarrao Gitte said that all steps are being taken to ensure a free and fair by-election.
Adequate security cover is being provided to every polling station apart from proper internet connectivity to facilitate webcasting in all booths.
The CEO stated that full-proof security is being arranged to ensure free and fair by-polls in these seats and said there is no question of voters to feel threatened.
Accompanied by IG(Law and Order) G S Rao, the CEO appealed voters to cast mandate without fear and said 25 companies of Central Para Military Forces are being deployed to maintain law and order inside 221 polling stations and in the areas outside.
A total of 1 lakh 89 thousand are set to exercise their franchise tomorrow morning in the four assembly segments. Among these, 51,739 voters are from Agartala constituency, 46,622 voters are from Town Bardowali seat, 47,300 are from Surma and 43,371 voters are from Jubarajnagar.
Out of 221 polling stations which would go to by-elections tomorrow morning, 148 were categorized ‘normal’ as per security assessment, four were marked ‘critical’, 59 were marked ‘vulnerable’ and 10 were marked ‘critical and vulnerable’ based on previous history of violence.
The election commission has arranged for waiting rooms and waiting sheds at all polling stations to make sure 100-150 electors standing in queue taking cue from experiences of torrential rains in the past few weeks in Tripura.
As many as 22 candidates are in fray for the by-polls which is crucial for both the ruling BJP and the opposition. It is to be mentioned that fate of many high profile candidates like Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha, BJP’s Ashok Sinha, and former minister Sudip Roy Barman is going to sealed on EVMs tomorrow.
