The women were detained while attempting to travel illegally to Ahmedabad

At least three Bangladeshi women were apprehended by the Government Railway Police (GRP) with the help of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala Railway Station on Sunday.

Acting on specific intelligence about the movement of infiltrators by train, the GRP and the RPF conducted a coordinated operation at Agartala station on Sunday. Increased security measures and the deployment of plainclothes officers led to the arrest of three Bangladeshi citizens, said Tapas Das, officer-in-charge of the GRP station at Agartala rail station.

The women were detained while attempting to travel illegally to Ahmedabad, Tapas Das stated.

He added that they initially claimed to be Indian citizens but could not provide valid documents to support their claims. During interrogation, they eventually confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals.
Das informed that the trio had entered Indian Territory without passports or any valid documents and as a result, a specific case has been registered against them under the IPC, Passport Act, and Foreigner’s Act.
All three women will be produced in a local court today.

This month alone, more than 15 infiltrators and several touts, who facilitated their illegal crossing and transportation, have been arrested by alert railway police at Agartala rail station.

These infiltrators were attempting to travel to other Indian states by train.

The increasing trend of using Tripura as a transit route, especially by Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, is a significant concern and poses a threat. This also raises questions about the security and monitoring of Tripura’s 856 km international border with Bangladesh.
