Tripura: TET qualified teacher aspirants protest near CM’s house demanding appointment

First Published: 2nd January, 2024 18:59 IST

Their primary demand was the swift issuance of appointment letters, emphasizing the pressing need to address the severe teacher shortage.

A group of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualified teacher aspirants gathered near Ganaraj Chowmhuni, blocking the residence of Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday as they demanded for fast recruitment.

Their primary demand was the swift issuance of appointment letters, emphasizing the pressing need to address the severe teacher shortage adversely impacting the quality of education in schools.
Despite their intention of securing an appointment with the CM for discussions, the aspirants faced resistance from security forces stationed at the CM’s residence.

Expressing frustration over previous unsuccessful attempts to engage with the CM, who also serves as the Education Minister, they highlighted the government’s apparent reluctance to address their appointment concerns, despite having qualified for the examination over a year ago.

With only 361 out of 38,000 TET 2022 examinees passing the examination, the aspirants argued that the state government should expedite the appointment process, given the significant number of vacant teacher positions.

They raised concerns about the imminent collapse of the education system due to the shortage of teachers, with instances of agitation by students and their guardians in various places due to the scarcity of teachers.

The demonstrators urged the government to take immediate steps to address the teacher appointment issue and resolve the shortage problem.
Subsequently, security forces intervened and dispersed the protestors.
