Tripura Rajya Sabha Bye-polls: 58 out of 59 votes casted

Noteworthy here is that the BJP has fielded former Chief Minister Biplab Deb as the party's candidate for the by-election.

By-elections for the lone Rajya Sabha are underway. The crucial bypolls began at 9 in the morning at the state assembly house. Almost all of the legislators have already cast their votes as 58 out of 59 votes have been cast so far.

The voting is being cast amidst strict security and arrangements.

Meanwhile, the BJP national spokesperson and Northeast in-charge Sambit Patra along with party’s Tripura Prabhari Mahesh Sharma are also at the assembly house to keep an eye on the voting.

Noteworthy here is that the BJP has fielded former Chief Minister Biplab Deb as the party’s candidate for the by-election.

The seat fell vacant after Dr Manik Saha resigned in July following his appointment as Chief Minister of Tripura.

The Left Front has named former finance minister and MLA Bhanulal Saha as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-poll.
