In a significant revelation, Tipra Motha founder and Royal Scion Pradyot Debbarma hinted at a major development related to the TIPRA Accord signed in March this year scheduled to unfold in Delhi on September 5.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Pradyot Debbarma said, “On September 5, you will get big news of something happening in Delhi in regard to bringing in long-term peace. Let something happen in the next few days, about which the Ministry of Home Affairs will notify everyone. After that, all stakeholders including TIPRA Motha will get into this Tiprasa Accord talks. Behind the scenes we have worked very hard to bring normalcy, to end insurgency.”
Debbarma reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the demand for Tipraland.
Addressing the ongoing debate surrounding the issue, Debbarma said that while the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) might pursue a demand for Greater Tipraland, his stance on Tipraland remains unchanged.
“I have never given up my demand for Tipraland. It is there, it will remain as long as the Constitution of India allows us to seek a separate state under Articles 2 and 3. If I do not get it, tomorrow someone else will eventually, whether in 5 years or 10. This is our way of articulating our unhappiness with the Union Government.Until they come up with a concrete solution, we have every right within the Constitution to continue asking for Tipraland, and we will ask for it,” Debbarma added.
Tiprasa Accord, signed between the Government of India, Government of Tripura and the indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance in March 2024 focuses on resolving issues pertaining to history, land rights, political rights, economic development, identity, culture and language of the indigenous people of Tripura.
Earlier last week, Debbarma directly addressed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the effective implementation of the Tiprasa Accord.
He emphasized the need for swift action to realize the terms of the agreement.
