BJP & its ally TIPRA Mortha confident of victory, opposition CPI (M) & Cong also pull up their socks leaving no stone unturned to woo voters

Politicking has intensified in Tripura as the state gears up for the August 8 three-tier panchayat polls, and each candidate is leaving no stone unturned to woo the last voters.

Not just the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally TIPRA Motha, the opposition CPI (M) and Congress have also intensified campaigning for the upcoming polls, the results of which will be declared on August 12.

The CPI (M) and Congress are contesting some seats individually and some as alliance partners under the INDI Bloc umbrella.

The BJP, buoyed by its governance record under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Manik Saha, is confident of a sweeping victory.

During its campaign, the party has highlighted its numerous development initiatives as critical achievements, such as improved connectivity, free gas connections, tap water supply, free rice distribution, social pensions, and the annual Rs 6,000 support for farmers.

BJP leaders believe that these initiatives have significantly improved the quality of life in Tripura and helped earn the voters’ approval.

Well, much before the voting in the state, the BJP found itself in the driver’s seat, having won around 70 per cent of the seats uncontested.

According to reports, out of the 6,889 seats in the Tripura panchayat system, the saffron party had won uncontested 4,805 seats. The BJP has won 4,550 of the 6,370 seats in the gram panchayats.

BJP’s ally, TIPRA Motha, has also exuded confidence in a resounding victory in the polls.

Party leaders have expressed their readiness and optimism for a favourable outcome, anticipating strong support from their voter base.

“We are confident of victory in the polls. We have been carrying out door-to-door campaigning and reaching out to the voters,” the TIPRA Motha said.

Meanwhile, the CPI(M) and Congress have criticised the present government and have pointed to issues like corruption, inflation, unemployment, and unfulfilled promises.

The opposition leaders have alleged that BJP’s popularity is declining in the state; because of this, the party has prevented the opposition candidates from filing nominations.

They further alleged that as the opposition leaders “were not allowed to file nominations,” the BJP has won unopposed in around 70% of the seats.

They further said that if the voters were given a fair chance, they would reject the BJP.

As per reports, around 13 lakh voters will vote in the polls.
