Tripura: Massive protest by STGT candidates over delay in announcement of results

More than a year has passed by since the Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT) for selecting eligible candidates was held in Tripura on September 11. But, surprisingly the results for the STGT is yet to be announced.

Irked by the inordinate delay in the announcement of the results, candidates who had appeared for the test today staged protest in front of the Siksha Bhavan in Agartala.

One of the agitators said, “Actually we want to say that, our exam has been completed and already a year has gone, but still we are not getting our results. So we request our CM to declare the results at the earliest and recruit us. How much can we wait. Because we are already depressed. We request to announce the results and recruit us.”

The agitating STGT candidates also met the Controller of the Teachers Recruitment Board Tripura (TRBT). The Controller assured that the demands would be looked into, but maintained that the matter is still subjudice.

In July this year, the Tripura Government had informed about its intention to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) with Supreme Court to resolve complexities regarding the recruitment of graduate teachers.

The issue stems from the Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT) examination conducted by the TRBT, which has faced legal hurdles resulting in a prolonged recruitment process of over nine months. The High Court of Tripura dismissed the state government’s review petition concerning the reservation of more than 50 percent of posts for a specific job advertisement.

However, students particularly in rural areas are reportedly at the receiving end, since the present circumstances have hampered the teaching-learning process to a great extent.
