Tripura Horticulture: Hands-on training to 60 progressive farmers

In order to raise awareness about various horticultural activities and motivate farmers towards taking up new initiatives, a state-level program on horticultural activities was organized at the Nagicherra Horticulture Research

In order to raise awareness about various horticultural activities and motivate farmers towards taking up new initiatives, a state-level program on horticultural activities was organized at the Nagicherra Horticulture Research Complex of Tripura.

Organized by Tripura’s Directorate of Horticulture & Soil Conservation in connection to the ‘Kishan Bhagidari Prathakmikta Hamari Campaign’ under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration, the program was attended by 60 progressive farmers from across the state.

The farmers were given hands-on training on various horti-technologies so as to enable them to grow their income.

As a part of the program, a visit to plots of various potential Horti crops having successful yields in the state’s agro-climatic condition for the participant farmers besides interaction with the field staff of these farms to know about various techniques was also held.

Other than the Department of Horticulture, officials from Spice Board and Tripura Khadi Board’s Bee Keeping section and successful farmers also shared their experiences and scopes with the participant farmers.

Speaking with Northeast Live, Director of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Tripura Dr Phani Bhusan Jamatia said that the state government is organizing this special campaign for sensitizing the farmers of the state towards increasing their income besides attracting more youths towards horticulture activities thus resolving the unemployment problem.

Dr Jamatia added that the department is going for massive area expansion for the cultivation of selective potential horticulture crops which are very remunerative for the farmers of Tripura.

The Director further added that the present state government is emphasizing the export of pineapple, jackfruit, and scented lemon not only to other states but also to other countries like Germany, the UK, UAE.
