Tripura: Former MoS Pratima Bhoumik Demands Mamata Banerjee’s Resignation Over Poor Handling of Kolkata Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case

Bhowmik also took a dig at the INDIA alliance, accusing its leaders of remaining silent on the brutal rape and murder case.

Senior BJP leader and former Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment from Tripura, Pratima Bhoumik has expressed dismay over the West Bengal government and Police’s inadequate handling of the rape and murder case of the trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and demanded resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Bhowmik called the TMC government in West Bengal as a “Talibani government” and accused it of fostering an environment where lawlessness prevails.

“West Bengal’s government operates like a Talibani regime. Every day, new problems arise, and there is no freedom of speech. The Trinamool Congress-backed goons are running the state in a Talibani style, while the government and police remain inactive. It’s time for Mamata Banerjee to step down as Chief Minister. As long as she remains in power, women in Bengal will never be safe,” Bhowmik said during a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Agartala.

Bhowmik further criticized Banerjee, pointing out that incidents of violence and atrocities have persisted from the CPIM regime through to the current government, which is led by a woman who holds multiple key positions including Chief Minister, Home Minister, and Health Minister.

She alleged that the West Bengal government and police tried to cover up the doctor’s murder by framing it as a suicide.

Bhowmik also said that the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, was not terminated or suspended but merely transferred to another institution.

Additionally, she claimed that 42 doctors who protested the incident were reassigned to distant villages, while those who expressed their outrage on social media received death threats from goons.

Bhowmik also took a dig at the INDIA alliance, accusing its leaders of remaining silent on the brutal rape and murder case.

She specifically called out several INDIA alliance leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Jaya Bachchan, for not addressing the issue.

She accused the Congress of only engaging in vote politics and neglecting the interests of the entire country.

Nationwide protests are being held across the country after the body of the post-graduate trainee was found on August 9, 2024.

The incident has sparked outrage across the medical community and nationwide protests are underway.

Doctors across the country have refused to return to work, except for emergency procedures.

So far, Kolkata Police have arrested 25 people in connection with the heinous crime.
