Heavy downpour since August 19 has plagued Tripura, triggering landslides and damaging roads at several places, disrupting road connectivity.
State Transport Department Secretary Chandra Kumar Jamatia said that at least 4,658.86 km of road has been affected due to rain, and there have been landslides in 4,644 locations.
Cracks have developed in 140 km stretch of road on the National Highway. The total damages have been estimated to be around Rs 18-25 crore.
“Ever since it started raining in Tripura on August 19, we have been monitoring all modes of transport. Thirty flights are arriving at and departing from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala. Not even one flight has been cancelled so far,” Jamatia said while speaking to the media.
“Thirteen express and six local trains operate from Agartala Railway Station. One local train route has been suspended because the track has been dislocated due to heavy rains since August 21. We have estimated the damage due to rain to be around Rs 18-25 crore,” he added.
