Tripura Floods: Damages To Roads-Highways Estimated At Rs 25 Cr, Landslides At 4,644 Locations

State transport department is monitoring all modes of transport ever since it started raining on August 19
Heavy downpour since August 19 has plagued Tripura, triggering landslides and damaging roads at several places, disrupting road connectivity.
State Transport Department Secretary Chandra Kumar Jamatia said that at least 4,658.86 km of road has been affected due to rain, and there have been landslides in 4,644 locations.
Cracks have developed in 140 km stretch of road on the National Highway. The total damages have been estimated to be around Rs 18-25 crore.
“Ever since it started raining in Tripura on August 19, we have been monitoring all modes of transport. Thirty flights are arriving at and departing from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala. Not even one flight has been cancelled so far,” Jamatia said while speaking to the media.
“Thirteen express and six local trains operate from Agartala Railway Station. One local train route has been suspended because the track has been dislocated due to heavy rains since August 21. We have estimated the damage due to rain to be around Rs 18-25 crore,” he added.
It may be mentioned here that around 31 people have lost their lives, 2 have been injured, and 1 person is missing due to the recent floods caused by continuous rainfall from August 19 to 23 in Tripura, while 53,356 people are still in relief camps across the state, the state government said on Wednesday.
Around 53,356 people are taking shelter in 369 relief camps across the state, and over 27,000 food packets have been distributed so far.
About 500 volunteers from Civil Defence and Aapda Mitra are continuing to be engaged in relief operations.
