A firearms dealer was detained by Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff at Jirania rail station in Tripura. During search operation, two 7.65 mm factory-made pistols and four magazines were seized from the arms dealer.
One of the seized pistols is of US made, while the other is of Chinese make.
Inspector Dipak Datta of the RPF infomed that the arrested individual, has been identified as Dipankar Sen, a resident of Devipur in Kamalasagar, under Sepahijala district of Tripura.
Reportedly, Sen acquired the weapons by paying Rs 30,000 for each pistol in Dimapur, Nagaland, from a supplier named Biswadeb, hailing from Hojai in Assam.
Further investigation revealed that the arrested arms dealer had boarded the Kanchanjunga Express train at Lumding station in Assam.
He was allegedly en route to deliver the firearms to an individual named Nandu Paul, residing in Ichabazaar area, near the Agartala rail station.
It has been suspected that these firearms were supposed to be smuggled to Bangladesh through the porous International Border.
