In a significant development, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday, batted for ‘One Nation, One Election.’
He said after returning from a meeting with PM Modi and top BJP leaders in New Delhi.
He said that frequent elections which are taking place round the year is hindering development processes.
The Tripura CM’s statement comes amid the growing dissatisfaction expressed by BJP’s alliance partner in Tripura, the TIPRA Motha, which has threatened to reconsider its alliance based on the state government’s response to the State Election Commission in conducting the long pending TTAADC village council elections along with Panchayat Poll in August.
He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘One Nation, One Election’ that seeks to synchronize elections to streamline governance and enhance development. CM Saha expressed hope that this initiative would be realized during Modi’s third term as Prime Minister.
Recently, the State Election Commission has sought views of the state government on organizing by-elections for two TTAADC constituencies and long-pending Village Council elections along with the Panchayat Poll in August.
PM Modi has said that he desires for One Nation One Election, if that happens it will be good for everyone.
On June 27, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma led Tripura Motha met the State Election Commissioner and demanded holding of Village Committees General Elections of TTAADC and Bye-elections of its two vacant seats —Kulai-Champahour and Mandwi-Pulinpur, along with the three-tier Panchayat Elections scheduled to be held in August this year.
