Tripura by-polls: Campaigning to end this evening; all out efforts by parties too woo voters

The campaigning for the by-elections will conclude at 4 PM

Political parties today made last ditch efforts to woo the voter for bypolls to the Boxanagar and Dhanpur seats in Tripura. While, BJP is confident of
winning both the seats, the Left Front too is putting all its might, especially when the Congress and TIPRA Motha have extended their support.
Party workers of the CPI-M as well as the BJP were seen carrying out door-to-door campaigns as well as motorcyle rallies to garner support for the candidates. The campaigning for the by-elections will conclude at 4 PM today. Polling in both the seats will be held on September 5.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Tripura CPI-M (Marxist) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury escalated his attack on the BJP
He said, “This election is very crucial. In 2018 the BJP-IPFT alliance they got 44, but before completion of 5 years that number was reduced to 36. Now they have the majority number of only 32 seats. So, they are much apprehensive as to how the remaining 4.5 years they will continue with this thin margin. It is a threat for their survival. So they want to win both these seats by hook or crook.”
Affirming that the spirit of I.N.D.I.A. bloc is very much prevalent in Tripura, Chowdhury said that the Congress and TIPRA Motha have been working for the Left candidates in both the seats to seal victory.
In this context, the Left leader said, “While the schedule of this election was announced, spontaneously the democratic and secular forces in the state without having any preconditions-the CPI M, TIPRA Motha and Congress sat together, had dialogue. There were discussions as to what would be their role.
Both Congress and TIPRA Motha on their own way, have been campaigning to defeat and to check the division of the votes.”
On Saturday, former Tripura Chief Minister and top CPI-M leader Manik Sarkar was also seen engaged in door-to-door campaigns.
Since the announcement of the poll dates, Tripur CM Manik Saha was also involved in blazing campaign trail in both the seats by harping on the development and welfare agendas. Last night CM Saha also held key deliberations with Tripur state in charge Mahesh Sharma, BJP general secretary (organization) for the state Ravindra Raju as well as other leaders pertaining to the polls.
The Dhanpur seat fell vacant after the resignation of Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik and the death of CPI(M)’s Boxanagar lawmaker Samsul Haque in July this year.
Taffajal Hussain is in fray for the BJP from the Boxanagar assembly seat and while Bindu Debnath will be contesting from the Dhanpur seat.
Mizan Hossein, member of the CPI(M)’s youth wing, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), is contesting in the Boxanagar seat while Koushik Chanda will be battling it out in the Dhanpur seat.
