Tripura: Animal development department culls 240 pigs to stop African Swine Fever
Minister Das informed that culling was done in the ASF affected Debipur government pig farm and its adjacent areas in the Sepahijala district as per the Center's directive.
A large number of cases of African Swine Fever have been detected among pigs over the last few weeks now in Tripura, the Animal Resource Development Department has so far culled as many as 240 pigs and piglets at the government-run Debipur farm and its adjacent areas in Sepahijala district.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, on the side-lines of World Veterinary Day celebrations on Saturday, Tripura’s Animal Resource Development Department Minister Bhagaban Chandra Das said that there is no vaccine for the disease in the world, for which the lone option to stop the spread of the disease remains to be culling.
Minister Das informed that culling was done in the ASF affected Debipur government pig farm and its adjacent areas in the Sepahijala district as per the Center’s directive.
In 2021, there was an outbreak of the disease in Kanchanpur in northern Tripura which is close to Mizoram and Manipur, Minister Bhagaban Chandra Das said the disease entered the state, and then also culling was done and compensation was provided to the farmers whose pigs and piglets were culled.
The Minister further assured that pork consumption remains safe now as no other samples sent from the state had the germ.
