Tripura: 2 cousin sisters aged 12 and 7 drown in Surma River

Shanti Mala, 12, jumped into the river to save her 7 year old cousin sister Seema but both drowned

Seema, 7, a resident of Thakur Cherra village in south Tripura had finished her exams and gone to visit her cousin sister Shanti, 12 who lives in Vishwaketu Para. They both decide to go and pick some vegetables. But in a tragic turn of events, Seema falls into the Surma river in Dhalai district. Shanti jumps into the river to save her younger cousin but unfortunately both drown.

NDRF team, Gandachara fire department staff, flood control department staff, and the local people
managed to rescue the bodies from the river after a 22-hour long search.

The bodies of both sisters have been sent to Gandachara Subdivision Hospital.
