In a video message, the TIPRA Motha Chief condemned the police action in strongest terms

TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has condemned the alleged police ‘high handedness’ in dealing with the protestors of Tipra Indigenous Students Federation, which turned violent yesterday.

In a video message, the TIPRA Motha Chief condemned the police action in strongest terms and said,”Our women students were beaten, what harm did they do? They were just speaking for their future. Whatever has happened I condemn this. I strongly request the Government of India, state govt to consider the demand of Roman script in Kokborok.”

The Tripura royal scion said the “movement for rights” shall only intensify if the government does not pay heed to the demand.

Pradyot Kishor Debbarma in the video said that lathi charge, spraying water cannons on unarmed peaceful protestors signifies the use of excessive force by the government.

Besides he also flayed the role of Tripura Governor in playing a proactive role in addressing the issue.

The protest rally by the Tipra Indigenous Students Federation, the student wing of Tipra Motha, in state capital Agartala turned violent yesterday after police resorted to tear gas shelling and use of water cannons to disperse the agitators who blocked the road to airport for around 4 hours. Around six of the demonstrators were injured and rushed to GB hospital for treatment.
