As many as three forest workers were seriously injured in a violent attack by timber mafias in the Shalbagan area under the Mungiakami police station in the Teliamura sub-division of Tripura.

The incident reportedly took place when the staff of Teliamura sub-divisional forest department went to raid a secret hideout of illegal timber mafia in the Shalbagan area on the basis of secret information.

As the team of forest workers reached the location, approximately 50 to 60 smugglers suddenly attacked the team, injuring at least three.

One of the forest workers, identified as Shankar Gowala, was seriously injured and rushed to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Shankar Gowala has suffered severe head injuries and his condition is critical after which he was referred to GBP Hospital after initial treatment.

Meanwhile, the Forest Department has seized a Maruti van carrying illegal timber, and a motorcycle bike belonging to the bandits was also seized.
