"My simple and straightforward focus is that law and order has to be maintained at all costs and so this force has been formed," CM Saha said
Tripura government has formed a Special Task Force (STF) to deal with the organised criminal groups, criminal syndicates, extortion gangs and such other crimes in the state, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Sunday.
Saha informed about the formation of STF on his return from New Delhi where he recently had a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and reportedly discussed various issues related to the safety and security of the state and its people.
The CM speaking to reporters after attending the special programme on 100 episodes of Maan Ki Baat at the Raj Bhavan said, “We have formed Special Task Force as after the election I have noticed some abnormalities at many places and so I thought to counter these special issues a special forces will be necessary.”
He added, “There will be zero tolerance towards those breaking the law.”
Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio said, “My simple and straightforward focus is that law and order has to be maintained at all costs and so this force has been formed.”
Earlier in his social media posts, the CM wrote that the STF will be headed by the Superintendent of Police (Economic Offences) and have statewide jurisdiction.
“The STF was formed with the objective to take focused action against organised criminal groups, criminal syndicates, extortion gangs and similar such crime,” the Chief Minister added.
Earlier, CM had also said that the Union Home Minister had asked him to continue the anti-drugs operations in the state ‘ruthlessly’.
The Tripura government earlier this week also set up the first ever Crime Branch Police Station (CBPS) to investigate cases of economic offences, serious crime, and offences under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
