While deforestation might be indispensable for carrying out developmental works, Agartala Smart City Limited through its exemplary work is bringing in a new ray of hope for a sustainable environment.
The Agartala Smart City Limited has taken the initiative for transplantation of a large number of trees that have been uprooted for widening the road from Agartala city to the Maharaja Bir Bikram airport into four lanes.
Notably, the Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal and retrofitting programme of the Government of India with an aim to develop 100 cities across the country to make them more citizen-friendly and sustainable.
Talking to Northeast Live, the Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, who is also the Managing Director & CEO of the Agartala Smart City Limited said that the process used with the available technology is expensive but worthy and vital for a sustainable environment. Furthermore Dr. Yadav further added that they plan to plant 10 saplings against every tree cut down.
